Five minutes from the Cathedral, inside a restored 16th-century building, Hammam Al Ándalus is the best-known Arab bath experience in Malaga. Three marble pools, a steam room, candlelight, no phones and no itinerary – just 90 minutes to decompress. Prices start at €28 and it sells out most weekends, so booking ahead is the only sensible move.

Quick Takeaways
  1. 01A 90-minute slot to move freely between the hot, warm and cold pools and the steam room – no timetable, no classes, just decompression.
  2. 02Towel, robe and slippers are included; the relaxation lounge is yours to use between dips or at the end.
  3. 03Phones are banned at the entrance and strictly enforced – it's a big part of why the atmosphere works.
  4. 04It's a hammam, not a spa: hammam and massage only, no facials, nails or hairdressing.
  5. 05Popular with couples for the atmosphere, but the format is individual, so solo visitors are equally at home.
  6. 06Weekends and summer evenings fill days ahead – book in advance to lock a slot and avoid inflated walk-in rates.

What Is Hammam Al Ándalus?

Hammam Al Ándalus is a Spanish chain of Moorish-style Arab baths with locations in Granada, Córdoba, Sevilla and Madrid. The Málaga branch occupies a restored 16th-century building near Plaza de los Mártires and is the most polished hammam option in the city.

The design draws directly from Andalusian bathhouse tradition – horseshoe arches, hand-painted tiles, marble surfaces and dim candlelight. It's a considered restoration rather than a recreation, and the building alone justifies a visit.

The format is simple. You get a 90-minute slot, a towel, robe and slippers, and then you move freely between the pools and steam room at your own pace. There's no programme, no class and no announcements – and the no-phone rule, enforced at the entrance, is what keeps it that way.

The Pools and Facilities

The circuit covers three pools and a steam room:

PoolTemperaturePurpose
Hot pool~38°CMuscle relaxation, opening pores
Warm pool~32°CComfort temperature – most people linger here
Cold pool~18°CCirculation boost after the hot pool
Steam roomHigh humidityDeep relaxation

The recommended approach is to alternate hot and cold with the warm pool as your base – ten minutes hot, two minutes cold, back to warm, repeat. It sounds simple, and it is, but the effect builds over the 90 minutes.

The relaxation lounge is a separate room with low seating and soft lighting, between the pool area and the massage rooms. Use it between dips or at the end of the session before you change.

Prices 2026

PackageDurationPrice from
Bath only90 min€28 per person
Bath + aromatherapy massage90 min + 15 min€40 per person
Bath + kessa scrub + massage90 min + 30 min€55 per person

The kessa is a traditional exfoliating scrub, worth considering if you've not done one before. The 15-minute massage is a pleasant short add-on, but the 30-minute package is more worthwhile if you're paying the premium. Booking online is the same price or lower than walking in, and it guarantees your slot.

What to Expect on the Day

Arrive at Plaza de los Mártires 5 at least 15 minutes before your session – the entrance is easy to miss, so look for the carved wooden door set back from the square. At reception you confirm your booking and are shown to a changing room with lockers, where your valuables, phone and watch go; the locker key attaches to your wrist.

Inside, staff are present but unobtrusive – they orient you to the pools and then leave you to it. The 90 minutes go faster than expected, and a gentle prompt near the end signals it's time to change. There's no hard cut-off, but the next group needs the changing rooms.

Which Visit Suits You?

Choose this if...
You want genuine decompression in a historic building that takes the format seriously – not a theme-park recreation. The solo and couples sessions work equally well, as the atmosphere does the job with or without company.
Avoid this if...
You're after a full spa day with facials, nails or hairdressing. Hammam Al Ándalus is strictly hammam and massage, with no beauty services – for that, the city's hotel spas are the better fit.

Pairing It With Your Day

A hammam session works well at the start or end of a day in the historic centre. A 10:00 or 11:00 slot leaves the afternoon free for the Alcazaba, Cathedral or Picasso Museum; an evening session winds down a day of sightseeing without the usual dinner-then-hotel routine.

The location makes it easy to combine with the Cathedral and the Roman Theatre, both within a ten-minute walk, and the popular 20:30 slot pairs well with a late dinner in the old town afterwards.
