Marbella Weather by Month

Marbella gets around 325 days of sunshine a year, so the real question is not whether the weather is good but which kind of good weather suits your trip. This guide breaks it down month by month – real temperatures, sea conditions, and honest advice on what each season is actually like. For the conditions right now, check the live Marbella weather forecast.

Quick Takeaways
  1. 01Peak season (July–August) costs 30–50% more in accommodation than June or September – same sun, same sea temperature, less crowd and lower price.
  2. 02Best value months: May and September – the same sun as summer, warmer sea than June, and 20–30% lower hotel rates.
  3. 03Rain reality: ~500mm a year, less than London gets in four months. June to August is almost completely dry.
  4. 04Off-peak is when the upmarket properties finally feel like value – book a hotel you could not afford in August, use it as a base for Ronda and the interior, and avoid Christmas week which resets prices upward.
  5. 05Family pick: June or September – warm enough for everything, without the 33°C August peak.

Marbella Weather in January

17°C high · 7°C low · 65mm rain · 15°C sea · 6 hrs sun

January is Marbella's quiet season. Most beach clubs are shut, the Golden Mile is calm, and hotel prices hit their yearly low – a room at a 5-star property costs roughly half what you would pay in August.

That said, daytime temperatures regularly reach 17–18°C. Outdoor lunches happen in t-shirts, and the old town is genuinely pleasant without summer queues. Best for golf, city breaks and anyone who hates crowds – skip it if you came for beach weather.

Marbella Weather in February

18°C high · 8°C low · 55mm rain · 15°C sea · 6 hrs sun

Almost identical to January, but with a noticeable psychological shift – almond trees bloom in the hills, and the light gets sharper. Carnival usually falls in February, which adds street energy to Marbella's old town.

Prices remain low. If you are planning a luxury villa stay in Marbella, February bookings often come with 20–30% discounts on weekly rates.

Marbella Weather in March

20°C high · 10°C low · 45mm rain · 16°C sea · 7 hrs sun

Spring arrives in March, with temperatures regularly climbing above 20°C. Beach clubs start opening for the season around Easter – in 2026, Semana Santa runs 29 March to 5 April.

Semana Santa brings crowds and atmosphere to the old town, but can spike hotel prices for that specific week. Best for spring hiking in the Sierra Blanca and cultural visits.

Marbella Weather in April

22°C high · 12°C low · 35mm rain · 17°C sea · 8 hrs sun

April is one of the best months on the Costa del Sol. Temperatures are warm but not oppressive, and golf courses are in excellent condition – if golf is your reason to visit, April or May is the answer. See the best golf resorts on the Costa del Sol for courses worth booking in spring.

Post-Easter, crowds thin out and prices return to normal. This is also prime hiking weather, before the inland gorges get too hot.

Marbella Weather in May

25°C high · 15°C low · 20mm rain · 19°C sea · 10 hrs sun

May is arguably the hidden sweet spot of the Marbella calendar. 25°C days, 10 hours of sun, sea finally warm enough for a swim – and the summer crowds have not arrived yet, so Puerto Banús is still walkable.

Hotels and villas cost significantly less than June. The 5-star hotels in Marbella often have May deals that disappear by mid-June.

Marbella Weather in June

29°C high · 18°C low · 8mm rain · 22°C sea · 11 hrs sun

Summer begins properly in June. The sea reaches 22°C, beach clubs open fully, and nightlife moves outdoors. The Night of San Juan on 23 June is worth planning around: bonfires on the beach, fireworks, the whole coast out celebrating.

Early June still has shoulder-season pricing. After the 20th, rates jump sharply as European school holidays begin – book yacht charters at Puerto Banús at least 3–4 weeks ahead.

Marbella Weather in July

33°C high · 21°C low · 2mm rain · 25°C sea · 12 hrs sun

Peak. Everything is at maximum – sun, crowds, prices, energy. The sea hits ~23°C, the beach clubs are at full capacity by 11am, and evenings stay warm until midnight.

This is the month Marbella was built for, but it comes with trade-offs: peak prices everywhere, and the city gets loud around Puerto Banús on weekends. If you are visiting in July, book everything in advance – the best villas for August weeks are typically full by April.

Marbella Weather in August

33°C high · 22°C low · 3mm rain · ~24°C sea · 11 hrs sun

Statistically identical to July, with one difference: the sea peaks around 24°C, the warmest of the year. Spanish domestic tourism also peaks – Marbella fills with Madrileños and Sevillanos alongside the international crowd.

Best for sea swimming and Marbella's beach clubs at full carnival energy. Avoid it if you want space, quiet, or value for money.

Marbella Weather in September

28°C high · 19°C low · 18mm rain · 24°C sea · 9 hrs sun

The best-kept secret in Marbella's calendar. September has almost identical temperatures to June, but the crowds have gone home and the sea stays at 24°C – warmer than June. Hotel rates drop 20–30%, and the beach clubs thin out enough that you can actually get a sunbed.

This is also the best month to get on the water, with the sea at its calmest and the marinas quieter.

Marbella Weather in October

24°C high · 15°C low · 45mm rain · 21°C sea · 7 hrs sun

Autumn proper, but still warm – 24°C is a London heatwave. Golf courses hit top condition as the heat breaks, and the sea is still swimmable at 21°C. Rain increases, but typically in short sharp bursts rather than all-day drizzle.

October suits a slower Marbella. Restaurants have space, and the coastal walk from Marbella to Puerto Banús is genuinely enjoyable.

Marbella Weather in November

20°C high · 11°C low · 55mm rain · 18°C sea · 6 hrs sun

November is when Marbella empties and the expat community sighs with relief. Daytime temperatures of 20°C are pleasant for walking and outdoor dining, though evenings require a jacket.

Rain increases significantly and some beach clubs close. But if you are not a beach-first traveller, Marbella in November has a genuine charm – less polished, more real. A good month for long stays and property seekers.

Marbella Weather in December

17°C high · 8°C low · 60mm rain · 16°C sea · 5 hrs sun

Cold by Marbella standards, warm by most of Europe's. The old town gets Christmas lights, restaurants run festive menus, and the coastal walk is empty and peaceful.

Hotel prices hit their annual minimum outside Christmas week. December is the cheapest time to experience Marbella's 5-star properties – a good moment for places that would otherwise be out of budget.

When Should You Go?

Choose this if...
Choose July or August for the full beach-and-nightlife Marbella at its peak. Choose May or September for the same sun with warmer seas than June, fewer people and 20–30% lower prices. Choose April, May or October for golf, and November to February for quiet luxury at half the summer rate.
Avoid this if...
Avoid July and August if you dislike heat above 30°C, crowds or peak pricing – everything from sunbeds to villas costs the maximum. Avoid November to February if swimming is the point of the trip; the sea sits at 15–18°C. And avoid Semana Santa week if you have not booked ahead – prices spike for those exact dates.

In short, May, June and September are the sweet spot: summer warmth and a swimmable sea without the August peak in crowds or price. Match the month to what you actually want from the trip and the rest of the plan follows.
