Search "yacht charter Costa del Sol" and the results scatter across a dozen towns – but the private charter market itself doesn't. It lives in one marina, Puerto Banús, where a verified fleet runs from a shared sunset cruise up to ~€6,500 a day for a crewed superyacht. Everywhere else on the coast, "yacht" usually means a shared dolphin-watching trip, not a boat you hire alone.

Puerto Banús and Marbella – the coast's only real charter market

Puerto Banús is where the Costa del Sol's superyachts actually live, and it's the only marina on this coast with an organised, bookable private charter fleet behind them. Brokers are based here, boats are moored here overnight, and platforms like Click&Boat verify listings, insure deposits and disclose fees upfront – which matters in a market that otherwise quotes low and bills high.

The shortlist runs from an Astondoa 50 for couples at ~€1,000 a day, through catamarans splitting cheap for groups at ~€1,800–2,500, up to a Sunseeker Predator 63 at ~€3,000–4,500 and a crewed Maiora superyacht from ~€6,500 a day. Estepona marina – quieter, cheaper, and no private fleet

Estepona's marina splits into two: the Puerto Deportivo, a smart promenade of yachts, cocktail bars and restaurants, and the Puerto Pesquero next door, a working fishing port. It's a genuinely pleasant place to spend an evening, and dolphin-watching boat trips leave from here too – but there's no resident charter broker fleet like Puerto Banús.

If Estepona is your base, treat it as the place for a shared cruise rather than a private hire. The trips are well run, the water is calmer than further east, and it's the honest budget alternative if a private boat isn't the priority.

Fuengirola and Benalmádena – family boat trips, not yacht hire

Both marinas are built around volume, not exclusivity. Fuengirola's Puerto Deportivo runs sunset cruises, fishing trips and a coastal ferry to Benalmádena, while Puerto Marina Benalmádena – 1,100 berths of distinctive floating architecture – adds dolphin cruises and a dense strip of restaurants around the water.

These are the right choice for a couple of hours on the water with kids or a group that doesn't want to spend charter money. They are not where you go looking for a private superyacht – nobody based here quotes charter rates because the fleet doesn't exist.

Sotogrande and Puerto de la Duquesa – marinas for owners, not brokers

Sotogrande's marina and Puerto de la Duquesa in Manilva, further west, are both genuine working marinas lined with private boats – Sotogrande's especially, given the polo and golf money that built the place. What neither has is a Puerto Banús-style charter industry: the boats you see are mostly privately owned, not sitting in a broker's fleet waiting for a booking.

If you're set on chartering from this end of the coast, the honest answer is to either drive the 30–45 minutes to Puerto Banús, or ask the marina office directly – some owners charter informally, but there's no verified platform covering it the way Click&Boat covers Marbella.

Timing it right

The pattern holds across the whole coast: May–June and September run 15–25% below August rates, with warmer, calmer water and none of the three-week waiting lists that hit Puerto Banús charters in peak summer. Shared cruises from Estepona, Fuengirola and Benalmádena are less seasonal on price, but still book out on weekend evenings in July and August.

Whichever marina you start from, confirm the weather cancellation policy before paying anything – reputable operators refund or reschedule free above 20-knot wind, on a €40 dolphin trip or a €4,000 day on a Sunseeker alike.
