Malaga weather in November is the off-season's best argument. Daytime temperatures sit at a comfortable 18°C, museums are empty, restaurant tables are easy and – by the last week of the month – the Christmas lights go up on Calle Larios. It's the quietest, most affordable month in Malaga, and most visitors don't know it yet.

Climate Data
November is the month where the summer heat finally releases its grip. Afternoons at 18°C feel pleasantly warm in the sun – locals are still on terraces in light jackets, and the city has a calm, unhurried quality that peak season never allows. Early mornings and evenings drop to around 10°C, occasionally lower by the end of the month.
The sea at 18°C is too cool for a long swim but fine for a quick dip, and the beaches are effectively deserted. Rainfall arrives in short, heavy bursts rather than prolonged grey days – most showers clear within an hour and leave fresh, sharp light behind, and even cloudy days are usually bright enough for comfortable sightseeing.
What to Do in November
November is arguably the best month for proper sightseeing. No heat fatigue, no queueing, no fighting for a table – just the city working at its own rhythm.
The Alcazaba, Gibralfaro Castle and Roman Theatre are at their absolute best in November – comfortable temperatures, golden autumn light, and almost no other visitors. Combine them in a single morning and still have time for lunch. The Picasso Museum and Carmen Thyssen are equally unhurried; November is the month for taking your time rather than moving quickly through crowds.
Hiking around Malaga is excellent in November. The Montes de Málaga Natural Park has good colour in the hills, the trails are quiet and the temperatures are ideal for walking without overheating. The Caminito del Rey is at its least busy and booking a slot is significantly easier than in spring or summer.
Day trips work particularly well in November. Ronda in autumn light is genuinely impressive, and Granada – with the Alhambra reflected in clear winter skies – is one of the best day-trip combinations on the coast. See the full Day Trips from Malaga hub for options and current booking links.
November is also the month to book directly and negotiate – old-town hotels that are full in summer often do better rates for longer November stays, as the Where to Stay guide explains.
November Events
The headline is the Calle Larios Christmas lights, which switch on in late November – usually the final week, with a switch-on ceremony that draws big crowds, so a weeknight visit afterwards is more enjoyable. All Saints' Day on 1 November is a quiet national holiday when some smaller businesses close, though museums and main attractions stay open.
Worth treating like an event in its own right: November is consistently the cheapest month for flights, hotels and tours across the whole Costa del Sol calendar.
What to Wear in November
Light layers carry most days – a long-sleeved top plus a sweater or cardigan, jeans or trousers, and comfortable waterproof walking shoes for wet cobbles. The single most useful item is a mid-weight waterproof jacket, with a compact umbrella for the short showers that arrive without warning. Don't plan around shorts, and don't underestimate the evenings, as 10°C after dark feels much cooler than the day – but a heavy winter coat is still overkill.
November weather shifts quickly – a warm, sunny morning can become a wet, windy afternoon within a couple of hours. Check AEMET Malaga the evening before and build flexibility into your daily plans.
Travel Tips for November
- Time your trip around the Calle Larios lights – if the switch-on falls within your travel window, the atmosphere in the city centre is genuinely special. Check Malaga's official tourism calendar in October for the exact date.
- Book the Caminito del Rey early regardless – it's quieter in November but still requires advance booking. Weekday slots are the easiest to get. See the full Caminito del Rey guide for logistics.
- Use the public transport network – November is a good time to explore beyond the city centre. The bus and metro are straightforward and significantly cheaper than taxis.
- Eat where the locals eat – November is when Malaga genuinely belongs to its residents. The best restaurants in Malaga are easier to book and the service is noticeably more relaxed than in peak season.
