Puerto Deportivo Fuengirola
Puerto Deportivo has 226 berths and sits directly on the seafront in the centre of town. Every dolphin watching trip, sunset cruise and fishing charter in Fuengirola departs from here. In the evening, the waterfront terraces are the most atmospheric dining stretch in town.

What Puerto Deportivo Actually Is
Puerto Deportivo is a working marina that also happens to be a good place to spend an evening. It shares space with the fishing port – active fishing vessels use the same harbour as the tourist excursion boats. That mixture gives it a more genuine character than purpose-built resort marinas.
The waterfront is directly connected to the Paseo Marítimo. Walking from the beach promenade into the marina area is seamless – there is no entry gate or separate zone. Restaurant terraces sit along the waterfront edge with views across the boats and out to sea.
It is smaller and less polished than Puerto Marina Benalmádena and a completely different proposition from Puerto Banús. Those comparisons matter if you are choosing between bases. Fuengirola's marina feels like part of the town rather than an attraction bolted onto it.
Boat Trips – The Main Reason to Come
The council's own tourism page confirms the marina as the departure point for dolphin cruises, water sports, diving, deep-sea fishing and sailing instruction. In practice, every boat-based activity in Fuengirola leaves from here.
Key departure points:
- Dolphin watching and yacht excursions: Muelle nº 2, atraque 136
- Fishing trips: Local 38 (Eventos Náuticos / Port Ticket Office)
- Sunset cruises and private charters: Various berths – operator signage along the dock
Arrive 15 minutes before any scheduled departure. The berth numbers are not always immediately obvious on a first visit – look for the operator's flag or sign along the relevant muelle.
For full details on each type of trip including prices and departure times:
- Fuengirola dolphin watching – 2-hour trips, twice daily
- Fuengirola boat trips – sunset cruises, fishing, ferry to Benalmádena, private charters
Restaurants & Bars
The marina has restaurant terraces along the waterfront confirmed by the official tourism page and marina directory. The number of individual venues changes with seasons and operators – no verified total is available from official sources.
The waterfront here fills from around 20:30 in peak season. It is the best place in Fuengirola for dinner with harbour views – the combination of boats, evening light and sea air makes it noticeably more atmospheric than the main promenade stretch.
What to look for:
- Terraces on the waterfront side rather than the street side – better views and breeze
- Seafood and Mediterranean menus dominate, with some international options
- Prices are mid-range – comparable to the central promenade, not Marbella levels
For the best fresh seafood in town, Los Marinos José is a 15-minute walk east along the promenade. See our Fuengirola restaurants guide for the full picture.
Evening at the Marina
The marina works as a destination in its own right in the evenings, separate from any boat trip. The typical sequence:
Arrive around 20:00 → watch the last boats come in → find a waterfront terrace → dinner from 21:00 → stay for drinks after.
Shaggy's Music Bar at Puerto Deportivo runs live music and entertainment most evenings – a good option if you want something beyond a restaurant dinner. The port area stays active until around 23:00, quieter than the central nightlife zone but with a better atmosphere for an early evening.
Practical Information
Parking: A marina directory lists free parking at the site, though paid spaces also exist in the surrounding area in peak season. Arriving before 10:00 in summer gives the best chance of finding free spaces nearby.
Getting there on foot: From Fuengirola train station, head south toward the coast and then west along the promenade. The walk takes approximately 10 minutes. The marina is at the western end of the central seafront, before El Castillo beach.
Access: The marina area is publicly accessible throughout the day and evening. No entry fee or ticket required to walk around the waterfront.
Facilities: ATM, fuel, boatyard facilities, Wi-Fi and sanitation confirmed by marina directory for boat owners. For visitors, the waterfront restaurants and bars are the main facilities.
For getting to Fuengirola from Málaga Airport, the C1 Cercanías takes 34 minutes. See the Málaga Airport to Fuengirola transfer guide for full options.
Puerto Deportivo vs Other Costa del Sol Marinas
| Marina | Size | Character | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Puerto Deportivo Fuengirola | 226 berths | Working port, central, local feel | Boat trips, evening dining |
| Puerto Marina Benalmádena | 1,100 berths | Resort-style, larger, separate zone | Marina atmosphere, nightlife |
| Puerto Banús Marbella | 915 berths | Luxury, superyachts, designer shops | Upscale scene, people-watching |
Puerto Deportivo is the most integrated with its town of the three. You do not go to it as a separate destination – it is part of walking around Fuengirola. That is either a feature or a limitation depending on what you want.
