Mijas Weather by Month: There Is No Weather Station in Mijas

Start with the thing no other Mijas weather page tells you: AEMET does not operate a weather station in Mijas. Its own municipal page for the town says so in as many words – "No existen estaciones pertenecientes a este municipio" – and names the station it substitutes instead, 19.71km away at an altitude of 54m.

Mijas Pueblo sits at around 430m. So every monthly temperature you will find published for Mijas, including the table below, was measured on the coast and is being read uphill. The numbers are still useful. They are just not Mijas's, and anyone presenting them as Mijas-specific is telling you something they cannot know.

The regional baseline, month by month

These are AEMET's 30-year normals for Málaga Airport, 1981–2010 – the same dataset our Málaga weather guide uses, so the two pages agree by construction. Read them as the coastal reference for the whole area, not as the village.

Two things jump out of that table. July has 0mm of rain and 0.1 rain days – statistically, it does not rain here in July. And November and December carry 100mm each, which is more than a third of the annual total in two months, so a winter trip is a real gamble in a way an autumn one is not.

What 430 metres actually changes

The village is cooler than the coast. How much cooler is genuinely not well established.

One source that compares Mijas Pueblo directly against Mijas Costa puts it at 3 to 5°C, and notes the gap matters most when coastal highs push towards 40°C. Another says only "a few degrees, especially morning and evening" and declines to put a number on it. That is the whole evidential picture – one estimate, not a consensus – so treat 3 to 5°C as a working assumption rather than a measured fact.

The direction, though, is not in doubt, and it is the practical part. On a 34°C August day on the sand, the village is the more comfortable place to be, which is exactly the opposite of what most visitors assume about a hillside with no sea breeze.

The best months for Mijas Pueblo

Sources converge tightly here, and the answer is March to May, with one guide calling it the best window by some distance. The Sierra de Mijas is green, the wildflowers are out, walking temperatures sit in the high teens to mid-twenties, and the summer coach volume has not arrived.

September and October are the strong second choice – warmer at 22 to 28°C, with better light and thinner crowds than spring. Some guides widen the ideal window to April, May, September and October, which is a fair summary of the whole thing.

June to August is the season to work around rather than avoid. The village is above 35°C and full of day-trip groups. The best months for Mijas Costa

Here the answer genuinely differs, which is unusual – most towns on this coast have one best-time answer, and Mijas has two.

For the beaches, guides give April to June and September to November: warm enough to swim, without peak-season crowds. That November edge is doing real work, because the sea holds its summer heat well after the air has cooled.

For families with young children, the narrower recommendation is May, June, September and October – reliable beach weather without exposing small children to the July and August peak.

The practical consequence for a trip covering both halves of the municipality: September and October are the only months that are the best answer for the village and the coast at the same time.
