Yes – the Balcón de Europa viewpoint, the Nerja Caves and the Maro coves make it the most scenic stretch of the Costa del Sol, and it stays quieter than the western resorts. You do need a bus or car to reach it, as the coastal train stops at Málaga.
How do you get to Nerja from Málaga?+
A direct Alsa coach from Málaga bus station takes about an hour (~57 km), or roughly 50 minutes by car. There is no train to Nerja.
Nerja or Frigiliana – which is better?+
They are a pair rather than a choice. Nerja has the coast, the Balcón de Europa and the caves; Frigiliana is the whitewashed hill village 10 minutes above it. Most visitors see both in one day.
What is the best time to visit Nerja?+
May–June and September–October for beach weather without the July–August crowds. The Nerja Caves and the Maro coves are worth the trip year-round.
Which beach is best in Nerja?+
Burriana for families and facilities; Calahonda, right below the Balcón, for a quick swim; and Maro and its neighbouring coves – reachable on foot or by kayak – for the scenery.
Do you need a car in Nerja?+
Not for the town itself, which is walkable. A car helps for Frigiliana, the Maro cliffs and the beaches further along the coast.
