A spa hotel in Malaga should mean more than a gym and a hot tub – a proper thermal circuit with hydrotherapy pools, a hammam and water-based treatments. Several properties in Malaga and the wider Costa del Sol do it properly, and most sell day passes to non-guests.

This guide focuses on the spa experience at each, with current price brackets and what to book ahead. Open to other bases for a wellness trip? The accommodation hub compares them all.

Quick Takeaways
  1. 01In the city: Gran Hotel Miramar's Botanic Spa by Sisley is the only central thermal circuit at this level.
  2. 02For a resort spa day, head to Benalmádena (Higueron, Hydros) or Estepona (Elba thalasso) – all open to non-guests.
  3. 03Hydros is the most accessible standalone option – a proper circuit with no overnight stay needed.
  4. 04Most circuits need swimwear, a swimming cap and flip-flops; circuit-plus-treatment bundles beat à la carte.
  5. 05Book spa slots 1–3 days ahead in summer and at weekends – circuits sell out.

Gran Hotel Miramar – City Centre

The most convenient spa in Malaga itself – a restored 1926 palace hotel a short walk from La Malagueta beach and the old town. The Botanic Spa by Sisley is a full thermal circuit: heated sensation pool, Finnish sauna, hammam, ice fountain, Jacuzzi and treatment rooms using Sisley products.

The circuit runs around €45–75 for non-guests, single treatments €40–70. It's the only city-centre hotel with a spa at this level, and the historic building adds real atmosphere; for budget, the Benalmádena options undercut it.

Hotel MS Maestranza – City Centre

A compact top-floor spa near the bullring and Paseo Marítimo – a terrace pool with hydro-massage jets, sauna, Turkish bath and a relaxation area with sea views. It's smaller than the Miramar's and mainly for guests, with occasional day-spa slots in season (treatments ~€40–65).

It works best as a stay add-on; for a day visit, call ahead, as non-guest access isn't always available.

Higueron Hotel – Benalmádena

A modern, resort-style hotel (Curio Collection by Hilton) built around its spa, 20–25 minutes from the city. The Higueron Spa has an indoor heated pool, hydrotherapy jets and waterfalls, whirlpool, sauna and Turkish bath, with a full treatment menu.

Day passes run around €50–80 and treatments €60–95, with timed slots for non-guests – book ahead. It's the pick if you want a proper resort feel by the sea without going far.

Hydros Spa, Holiday World – Benalmádena

The best standalone thermal circuit near Malaga, designed as a day-spa and open to non-guests as standard. The 90-minute circuit takes in five pools (a Dead-Sea-style saltwater pool, a counter-current pool, hydro-massage beds), contrast showers and a chromotherapy room.

Circuit-only is around €35–55, and the popular circuit-plus-30-minute-massage bundle ~€55–85. Go here if you want a proper circuit without committing to an overnight stay.

Elba Estepona Thalasso – Estepona

The most ambitious spa on the Costa del Sol – a purpose-built thalasso with 1,400 m² of hydrotherapy using real Mediterranean seawater, 45–50 minutes from the city. Thermal pools, saunas, a hammam, seawater massages and thalasso wraps, with day passes around €60–90.

It's worth the drive if thalasso therapy specifically is what you're after; peak periods can be reserved for hotel guests, so check before travelling.

City Spa or Resort Spa?

Choose this if...
Stay central and book the Gran Hotel Miramar circuit if you want a premium spa morning folded into a city break – thermal circuit, then a beach walk and old-town lunch.
Avoid this if...
Head out to Benalmádena (Hydros, Higueron) or Estepona (Elba thalasso) instead if you want a full resort-scale facility or a cheaper standalone circuit – the city can't match them on size or price.

Before You Go

Most thermal circuits require a swimming cap, available to rent or buy at reception, plus swimwear and flip-flops; towels and robes are usually provided or rented for a small fee. Book any treatment at the same time as your circuit slot – combination packages are consistently better value than à la carte, and weekend and summer slots fill days ahead, so reserve before you arrive rather than on the day.
